When will the euro become the official currency in Bulgaria?
The euro will become the official currency in Bulgaria on January 1st, 2026. Until December 31st, 2025, the lev will remain the official currency.
What is dual display and when does it come into effect?
Dual display is the presentation of monetary values simultaneously in leva (BGN) and euro (EUR). Each value in leva is converted at the official exchange rate and presented in euro. Dual display of values is mandatory from August 8th, 2025 to August 8th, 2026 incl.
How are amounts calculated in euro?
Amounts are calculated in euro according to the official exchange rate of the Bulgarian National Bank, which is 1 euro = 1.95583 leva. Amounts are rounded to two decimal places.
Example 1): 20 leva = 12.2258 euro, which is rounded to 12.23 euros (the second digit after the decimal point is rounded up because the third digit is “5” or higher).
Example 2): 24 leva = 12.2710 euros, which is rounded to 12.27 euros (the second digit after the decimal point remains the same because the third is less than “5”).
How and where will I receive information about due amounts in leva and euro?
You will receive information about due amounts in both leva and euro during the dual display period (August 8th, 2025 – December 31st, 2026) through all our communication channels – in text messages, letters, telephone conversations with our employees, our self-service platform: https://online.theagency.bg/.
After December 31st, 2026 you will only be able to receive information in euro. You will also be able to receive information about due amounts to DCA in leva and euro at the cash desks of our partners from EasyPay during the dual display period.
When and in what currency will I be able to pay my debts?
Until December 31st, 2025 you can only make payments in leva.
From January 1st, 2026 to January 31st, 2026, inclusive, payments can be made in both leva and euro (dual circulation period). From February 1st, 2026 payments will only be possible in euro.
Will I be able to pay my debts using the bank accounts I currently use?
There will be no change in bank accounts. All IBANs at all banks servicing DCA will remain the same for the period January 1st, 2026 to January 31st, 2026 (a period of dual circulation, during which payments can be made in both currencies), as well as from February 1st, 2026 onwards (when the euro will be the only currency in circulation in Bulgaria).
How do I make payments through EasyPay cash desks?
The method of payment at EasyPay cash desks will not change within the statutory deadlines. During the dual display period you will be able to obtain information about the amounts due in leva and euro. Payments will be accepted as follows:
- only in leva until December 31st, 2025;
- in leva and euro during the dual circulation period from January 1st, 2026 to January 31st, 2026;
- only in euro from February 1st, 2026.
Will the amount of my debts change after the adoption of the euro?
Your debts with DCA will not change – due amounts will remain the same, as they will be converted at the official exchange rate (1 euro = 1.95583 leva). The amounts are rounded up to the second decimal point. This applies to all debts – overdue and legal.
Will additional fees be charged on my debts?
DCA will not charge additional fees or interest in connection with the adoption of the euro as the official currency – neither for the dual display period, nor for the dual circulation period or after them.
Will my payment arrangements change? Will existing agreements need to be re-signed?
The dual display period, currency conversion, and the adoption of the euro as the official currency do not in any way change the agreements established between you and DCA. The payment terms for debts do not change, the agreed amounts of regular payments do not change, and there is no requirement to re-sign active agreements for deferred payment.

How can I exchange my leva for euro and at what exchange rate will the exchange be made?
The amounts available in your bank accounts will be automatically converted from leva to euro on January 1st, 2026 at the official exchange rate (1 euro = 1.95583 leva).
Cash will be exchanged at the official exchange rate (1 euro = 1.95583 leva) at the cash desks of the Bulgarian National Bank, at selected branches of Bulgarian Posts EAD, and at the cash desks of commercial banks.
